again, technically I haven’t been sick...I don’t have to remember elementary
school. I have a brother in who constantly reminds me simply with his lack for homework. He complains about how hard it is to think of
things that describe him, and it took all my restraint to not say out loud, “Well
at least you don’t have to worry about your high school GPA."

...Above I said that I wasn’t technically sick, but because of the
stupid high-pollen content I’ve been sniffling (along with my peers and
teachers) for the past few days, and I had swimmer’s ear over the weekend. It wasn’t a big deal though. I just had to remember to put drops in my
right ear twice a day.

Last week was tryouts for the school play...I’m very
excited b/c I actually got the lead female role this time! That’s going to get pretty busy considering the
only 2 scenes I’m not in are pair with scenes I am in, so I always have to be at rehearsals. I’m not too bothered though. I can still find time to do homework.

While my mind is focused on my
schedule, here’s a general idea of it. It isn’t as bad as it seems though because I
get to skip 1st period for off-campus PE, so I don’t have to leave
the house until 9, compared to catching the bus at 7:30 (which I actually have
to do tomorrow because of NHS). Monday
morning I have swim practice, so I get up...to eat & put on my suit. I’m home, hop in the shower, eat some
fruit, and continue my morning routine, arriving at school...just in
time for the bell to ring. After school I have theatre, which always ends
at 5. My mom drives me to the pool and I change into my suit & get ready for dry-lands... I get home around 8, eat dinner, take a
shower, do my homework, and, if I have time, check my email before I go to bed.
Tuesdays Mom has Jazzercise and has to
drop me off early, so I hang out in the office.
This is the day we get study time during the last 30 minutes of choir. After school is the same every day. Wednesday I get to sleep in! This day is actually normal. Thursday is another morning practice
day. My mom has bowling today, so she
has to drop me off early again. We have
study time in choir on Thursdays too, so usually I get all my homework done,
except for math, which I have 6th period. Usually I work on it during Journalism. Fridays are the other day my mom has to be at
Jazzercise early (she goes every morning) and are generally homework-free,
except for Algebra, of course. I spend
Saturday finishing my homework & working on Science Fair and/or History
Fair, and on Sunday I have to be at church...during the 9:15 service. Any forgotten
homework is usually done Sunday afternoon.

Which reminds me, my dad tried to
teach me the rules of football, and I fell asleep.

What's you daily schedule like?"

NOTE: I've pretty much only taken out things that would reveal where I live and typos. Please ignore the "h" at the beginning. it's so the margins don't try to get smart.

Happy Labour Day Everybody!

No school!
Basically no work! Wahoo!

My parents decided that this
weekend we were going to take a trip to Ethan Allen to order my new bedroom
furniture that I picked out last year. Once
we got there we showed my dad and brother (who’d never seen the furniture) what
we were ordering and my mom gave my dad a chance to veto it. He didn’t.
Then we started discussing bedding and whatnot. We eventually decided we’d think about it.

Sunday was spent cleaning out my
room so I wouldn’t have too much stuff once my new furniture gets here. Most of my clothes hadn’t been sorted since 6th
grade, so we got rid of a ton of stuff. Mom claimed that my brother and I don’t have
any long-sleeved shirts. I told her it’s
because we have a ton of lightweight jackets.
My closet, trundle, and desk still need to be cleaned, but other than
that we’re done. That’s actually less
than half of my room. Plus I’ve already
started on my closet and most of the stuff in my closet and trundle just need
to be stored.

Yesterday in the Sunday ads I was looking at the bedding when I decided that I needed a picture of the Canon Powershot S5 IS, the "chosen one" of all the camera's I researched to replace my two-year old Nikon Coolpix L3. It's so beat up that you can't even read the model on the front. But really I just wanted a better quality camera because I know that I'm going to be using it a lot within the next few years, and the grainy pictures just weren't cutting it for our yearbook, you know? So anyways...lol...I needed the picture for my "Wish Board," an idea stolen from "The Secret." (See Currently Watching, b/c I saw the DVD with my mom. I'll read the book eventually.) It just so happened that the universe was working in my favor (you'll have to understand The Secret to get that) because the camera was $100 off at OfficeMax on Labour Day weekend. We found out that they honored competior's coupon's at OfficeDepot, and that was closer, so we went there instead. We also found the perfect bedding (which also included 2 sham covers and a bedskirt) at Dillard's for half off, along with 3 Euros and 1 small square pillow:

My grandparents are spending the afternoon
here today. Dinner is going to be in
about an hour, maybe sooner.

The Meaning of Life?

The other day I was thinking about The Meaning of Life. I listen to the Beyond Reality Radio podcast, and they mentioned it the other day. I, a student with all "A"s in honors classes, mind you, have come up with two probable solutions, each as unoriginal as they come, but I'm proud of them all the same.

What if the meaning of life was to simply figure out the meaning of life? Then again, if this was true I think I would drop dead now before getting a chance to tell you so. It's simplistic enough, even though you're head is running around in circles trying to figure out which comes first, the egg or the chicken.

Who's ever been a Girl Scout? Of course, I never was, but I did go to the summer camps with my friends until my mom found a UU camp I could go to instead, but that's beside the point. Don't Girl Scouts have "Leave everything nicer than you found it" as one of their mottoes? What if that's what we were put on this earth to do? To fix it. I believe that we are all here for a reason, and that all of our actions, big and small, are significant to a larger destiny than just our own. Who's ever heard the song "For Good"? Just as bad as yesterday, except the PowerPoint was a bit more interesting today. It was on college prep, basically. She told us what skills we needed so we wouldn't fail out of college. Great topic, horribly long PowerPoint. I need to work on my attention sp- Oh! a bat! How cute!-an. The thinking skills needed were very Unitarian Universalist. (Why don't you recognize that as a word WordCheck?! I'm going to shorten it to UU, btw) It reminded me of a conversation that I had to my mom when we were driving to Austin. I told her I wouldn't go to a college that didn't have a UU church a reasonable distance away. She said not to worry- most of the professors were UUs. Now I think I understand why. Also, that just got me thinking. The four of us (Mom, Dad, Little Brother, and I) are all extremely smart. Yes, I have an inflated ego, let's continue. Obviously it's in my genes, and LB and I are also in a pretty successful and intelligent school district.
But maybe, just maybe, Dad, LB, and I got a boost from our open-minded religion. (NOTE: My mom was an "Air Force Brat." She never technically had a church/ religion) My dad was doing my Algebra homework in his head. Then again, so was I, but according to my MAP scores I could teach myself Algebra.
Speaking of which, that's what I had next. Again. It's always going to be like that. For 4 years in a row my Math class has been my next-to-last class. We took notes on how to take notes. But I'm glad we did, because our teacher wants it done a special way for Math. It kinda like it. It's very organized and neat. And the college-ruled paper makes it look even nicer. I have a thing for college-ruled paper.
In Journalism we (the 4 of us that went to Journalism camp) pitched the theme of our 2009 yearbook to the rest of the class. Luckily, they all loved it-- it was a unanimous decision. We also gave the new students the "You Can't Give Away the Theme" speech. That took most of the period, surprisingly, and we spent the last 13 minutes (I yelled it out to the class) doing homework.

Today was productive.
Oxymorons

I think "Baking Accident" is an oxymoron.

Wait. Can compound words be oxymorons too? If so, then "Superman" is an oxymoron too. Unless you're my dad. He's pretty amazing.

Choir Camp- the aftermath

We had choir camp this week from 9 to noon Mon. through today:

"Are in middle school? Love to sing and dance? Then join [high school level] students and the...choir teachers this summer at Choir Camp as you learn hit Broadway tunes complete with choreography. You'll finish off the week with a spectacular concert and kick off the 2008-2009 school year with a bang! The cost is $20 per student for music, lunch on Wednesday, and 3 days of non-stop fun! Pre-register [sic] by emailing your name and school to...by Friday, July 25. Dates for the camp are Monday, August 11 through Wednesday, August 13, 2008. Registration begins at 8:15am on the first day of camp. See you there!" (I omitted my school for the obvious reasons)

So needless to say, I had nothing better to do, and this was when I didn't have any plans for the entire summer except for U-Bar-U in... I guess that was June... wow. Anyways, so it barely cost anything, and my choir directors were going to be there, so I just decided "Well, hey! Why not?"

The songs were...nice. Not good, not bad, just nice. We sang "Born to Hand Jive" (Grease), "The Addams Family" (from the umm...TV show... of the same name), "Hopelessly Devoted to You" (only the girls sand this one--another song from Grease), "Seize the Day" (and only the guys sang this one-- Newsies), and finally, one of the best songs ever(!), "Seasons of Love" (Rent, you guys, Rent!) They always made us practice that one last because that's what we really wanted to sing.

There were also solo auditions on Day 2, and I had been prepared to sing "Giants in the Sky" because I hear it all the time in rehearsal & already had it memorized. Well, the girl playing Jack surprised me by showing up to camp, and she was going to sing it for her audition, so I decided it would be more practical to sing something else, and so I choose "Happily Ever After" from Once Upon a Mattress.

We both ended up getting chosen, along with another girl from our school, out of the eight that auditioned. The first time I got up there to sing my solo in rehearsal, I freaked out because I assumed we were going to have two hands to work with, so I had to change around a few things. I've never had a solo in a play before, so I'd say I did pretty good, considering the only thing that was "bad," per say was that my voice shook a little near the end. But that only happened the first time. Thank goodness!

Everything else was great. But my parents made a huge deal out of nothing, considering my dad left work early just to come see me sing 1 song. Not necessary I'd say. One song, and frankly the competition wasn't even fierce, unlike auditions for the school musicals, where i was much more proud of myself to get the chorus for last year then I was when I was chosen for a solo at choir camp. I mean seriously, the only people that were there were parents & friends.

Oh, and did I mention that only 3 middle-school guys were there, and only 5 other girls were going into 8th grade?

Dallas- Day 5, cont. x 4

And the little brother is still
reading (see currently reading). Aww… there’s the Toys R Us we
went to almost too often up until a few years ago. It was the only place where my brother could
buy his Pokemon action figure thingys.
Geez, I feel like I’ve been away for five years, not five days.
